Gola Sizzlers Uniforms: Denim and Canvas Aprons, Dry-Fit Polos and Chef Caps

A sizzler restaurant is a loud, hot, theatrical place. Plates arrive smoking, staff carry cast-iron to the table, and the kitchen is never quiet. What we made: the Gola Sizzlers uniform at a glance

Two brand marks appear across these pieces: the square GOLA logo with its orange dot, and the Sizzlers Cafe by Gola wordmark with a gold G monogram. Each set of pieces sticks to one mark, which keeps each look clean.

The denim apron: the hero of the wardrobe

The denim bib apron is the stand-out piece in the Gola Sizzlers wardrobe. It is cut from dark indigo denim with a clean chest pocket and the GOLA logo embroidered in white, with the orange dot filled in satin stitch. The neck strap is tan leatherette with a buckle for adjustment, and it continues into cross-back straps fastened with metal swivel clips to eyelets at the sides. Turn it over and the lighter reverse of the denim shows, along with long fabric ties at the waist.

Why it works for a sizzler kitchen and floor:

• Denim hides the job. Oil spots, smoke and the odd splash from a sizzling plate disappear into indigo far better than into black polyester or white cotton.
• Cross-back straps spread the load. On a long shift, a neck strap alone drags on the neck. Straps that cross the back move the weight to the shoulders.
• Detachable hardware. Swivel clips let the straps come off for washing, which is kinder to the leatherette and the metal.
• It ages well. Denim softens and fades gradually rather than looking tired, so a six-month-old apron still looks intentional.

Canvas aprons in golden brown

The second apron in the Gola Sizzlers wardrobe is a golden brown canvas bib apron, photographed in two lengths: a full-length apron and a shorter one. Both have a leatherette neck strap with metal eyelets, a leatherette strip along the top of the large front pocket, a smaller patch pocket, and two short leatherette tabs on the chest that act as pen or thermometer holders. The GOLA logo sits on a square patch on the chest, in crisp white outlines with the orange dot, the same mark as on the denim apron.

Canvas gives a different feel from denim. It is flatter and more structured, takes a solid colour like this warm tan beautifully, and looks at home in a cafe, bakery or open-grill counter. The leatherette details tie it visually to the denim apron, so the two can be worn by different roles in the same room without clashing.

The lesson: make the same apron in two lengths. A shorter version suits counter staff, shorter team members and roles that bend and kneel often; the full length suits the grill and the pass. Polos for heat and for a crowd

Two polo styles appear in the Gola Sizzlers archive, and they do different jobs.

Black dry-fit polos

The black polo is a lightweight dry-fit knit with a gold G monogram on the chest, drawn in wavy lines like heat rising off a plate, and the Sizzlers Cafe by Gola wordmark printed across the back in orange and white. Dry-fit wicks sweat and dries fast, which matters when staff are carrying sizzling cast-iron through a warm room. Black hides the inevitable marks. Light grey melange polos

The grey polo is a pique knit in light grey melange with a small GOLA logo on the chest and a large navy GOLA SIZZLERS print across the back, with the logo's orange dot. A big back print is visible across a room, at a counter or at an event, so it works as both a uniform and a walking sign. Melange also hides lint and light marks better than a flat colour. Waist aprons and chef caps: the quick pieces

Not every role needs a bib apron. The Gola Sizzlers archive includes short black waist aprons with the Sizzlers Cafe by Gola wordmark, the sort of apron a server can tie on in seconds and wear over a polo without adding heat. They match the black dry-fit polos, so the service look is simple: black top, black waist apron, one bright wordmark.

The kitchen caps are navy soft-crown caps with the GOLA logo in white on the front. A cap like this keeps hair contained in a busy kitchen, which matters for food safety, and it is far more comfortable over a long shift than a tall paper toque. Branding thick fabrics: outlines and solid blocks

The GOLA logo appears in two treatments across these pieces, and both are worth copying. On the denim and canvas aprons it is a line mark: thin white outlines and letters with a filled orange dot, which sits well on a sturdy twill or canvas and holds up to heavy use. On the back of the grey polo it becomes a solid navy block with the grid and letters showing through in the fabric colour, a bold treatment that reads from across a room. The principle is the same either way: a simple, strong-lined logo suits thick, textured fabrics, while very fine detail and tiny text tend to pucker or blur. • Build around the hard-working piece. In a sizzler restaurant that is the apron. Get it right in denim or canvas and the rest of the uniform can stay simple.
• Keep the palette small. Indigo, tan, black, grey and one orange accent from the logo. Every piece belongs to the same family.
• One mark per look. If you run a main brand and a cafe sub-brand, give each its own set of pieces rather than mixing marks on the same garment.
• Match fabric to heat. Dry-fit for the busiest, hottest roles; pique melange where comfort and a softer look matter more.
• Use the back of the garment. A big back print on a polo is seen more than any chest logo.
