The manager is the person a guest looks for when something goes wrong, when they want to compliment the kitchen, or when they want a table moved. If a guest cannot find that person in five seconds, the uniform has failed, no matter how good it looks.

The one-layer rule

The mistake we see most often is dressing managers in a completely different outfit. It separates them from the floor and, more practically, means you are managing two entirely separate uniform inventories. The better approach is a single distinguishing layer over the same shirt and trousers the service team wears: a waistcoat, a half jacket, or a blazer.

Waistcoat styles and when to use them

  • V-neck, five buttons. The most universally flattering and the most-ordered. Works over both long and short sleeves.
  • Collared, five or six buttons. More formal, adds structure across the shoulders. Good for hotels and fine-dine.
  • Nehru collar. A cleaner, more contemporary line, and the natural choice for modern Indian restaurants.
  • Angrakha or round-neck asymmetric. Distinctive, photogenic, and increasingly requested by regional-cuisine restaurants that want a uniform with a point of view.

Details matter more on a waistcoat than on any other uniform piece because it sits at eye height across the table. Contrast lining that shows at the armhole, horn or metal buttons, a welt pocket, and a small embroidered crest at the chest are enough. Skip the large logo.

Blazers and half jackets

For hotel F&B, banquets and premium bars, a blazer or half jacket carries the authority a waistcoat cannot. We build these in poly-viscose suiting for daily wear, and in tweed or textured wool-blend for winter and for bar managers who want a heavier look. A half jacket, cut shorter and less structured, is the practical middle ground: it reads formal, moves better on the floor, and costs less than a full blazer.

Give the manager one thing the team does not have. A waistcoat, a different collar, a lapel pin. One is enough; three makes them look like a different company.

Badges, pins and the human detail

A name badge with the manager's name and role is the highest-return item in the whole uniform. Guests remember names, complaints get resolved faster, and reviews start naming individuals rather than "the staff". Add a small metal lapel pin in the brand mark for a finished look.

Fit and quantity

Waistcoats and blazers should be tailored to the individual rather than ordered in a size run. Managers are a small group and they wear the garment every shift, so the cost of individual fitting is negligible and the difference is visible from across the room. Two waistcoats per manager is enough; two blazers if the blazer is worn daily, one if it is for evening service only.

Ordering

Send us the number of managers, whether the restaurant is air-conditioned throughout, and a photograph of your service uniform. We will propose a layer that sits on top of what you already have. See finished manager uniforms in our work gallery or WhatsApp +91 98213 34906.

Questions restaurateurs ask us about this

Which waistcoat style suits an Indian restaurant?

V-neck five-button waistcoats are the safest and most flattering across body types. Collared and six-button styles read more formal and suit hotels and fine-dine. Nehru-collar and angrakha-style waistcoats work beautifully for Indian-cuisine restaurants and are increasingly requested for modern Indian dining rooms.

What fabric should manager blazers be made in?

Poly-viscose suiting between 210 and 250 GSM is the practical default: it holds shape, resists creasing through a shift and can be dry-cleaned regularly. Tweed and textured weaves look excellent for winter and for bar managers but are warm for summer service in most Indian cities.
